We’re a family-run coffee roasterie in Newark, Delaware…and we are obsessed with good coffee. We find that the more we learn, the less we know. But one thing we know for sure is that there are many factors that can rob coffee of its delicious aroma and flavor. The solution? To roast often and in small batches. That’s why we don’t roast your coffee until after you order it. Does this take a day or two more to fill your order? Sure. But we think (and we hope you will agree) that the end result is worth it.
So, how’d we get into coffee roasting? To be honest, it was not a route we initially chose. In one second, an inattentive driver changed the course of our family’s life. My husband was brain injured in the accident, losing his job, many of his abilities, and much of what our family had taken for granted. He received amazing physical therapy, but in the effort to help him get back his pre-accident cognitive abilities, I needed to come up with a plan for some sort of vocational rehab. Thus, Pike Creek Coffee Roasterie was born.
In the years since then, Peter has come a long way…but the journey is not over. We’re not anywhere near the point where we can say that if we could go back and choose, we’d choose to have the accident happen, but we have learned a lot of things along the way.
We’ve learned the value of true friends, of hard work, and that God has a plan for everything. We don’t always understand this plan, but we hold fast to Jeremiah 29:11…For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
In the meantime, we continue to take one day at a time…the good and the not-so-good…and we keep roasting coffee that tastes as good as it smells. We’re not going to settle…and neither should you!
